Blue Pathways is a community initiative by Wet & Salty Adventure Sailing School that connects sponsors with motivated young Barbadians aged 16–22, making professional sailing education and career development accessible to those who might otherwise never have the opportunity.
For many young people, a career in the marine industry is more than a dream—it is a pathway to an exciting future. Yet internationally recognised sailing training is expensive and often beyond the financial reach of talented, motivated individuals.
Blue Pathways exists to remove that barrier.
By bringing together businesses, organisations, community partners and individual sponsors, we create opportunities for young people to gain internationally recognised sailing qualifications, practical experience, mentorship and the confidence to pursue careers within Barbados' growing Blue Economy.

Built around school and work commitments
We understand that many young people are studying, working or doing both.
That's why Blue Pathways has been designed to fit around existing commitments.
Participants begin with an intensive three-day ASA Basic Keelboat Sailing course, where they learn the fundamentals of sailing and safety.
From there, they continue developing their skills through half-day sailing sessions every weekend with the Wet & Salty Sailing Club, sailing aboard our fleet of J/24 keelboats.
This flexible structure allows participants to gain real sailing experience while continuing with school, college, university or employment.
Learning becomes part of their lifestyle rather than interrupting it.

Blue Pathways is about developing capable, confident young professionals—not simply teaching people how to sail.
How the Programme Works
Step 1 - Apply
Complete the online application and attend an interview if selected.
Step 2 - Initial Sailing Training
Selected participants complete a three-day ASA Basic Keelboat Sailing course, providing the foundation for everything that follows.
Step 3 - Weekend Sailing
Participants continue building experience through weekly half-day sailing sessions with the Wet & Salty Sailing Club. Every weekend on the water builds confidence, seamanship and teamwork. Participants must attend at least 90% of the weekend sessions.

Our goal is to prepare participants for meaningful careers throughout Barbados' growing marine sector and beyond.

Sponsors
Sponsors provide the financial support that enables participants to complete their initial sailing training and continue developing their skills through regular weekend practice with the Wet & Salty Sailing Club.

Wet & Salty Adventure Sailing School
Wet & Salty provides professional instruction, experienced mentors, sailing club access and a supportive learning environment where participants develop practical skills, confidence and leadership.
